Quick History of Pan

Student Steel Pan Experience

Steel pans (steel drums) were invented on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. They are widely used in afro-caribbean music, including calypso, soca and reggae. Today, you can hear "steel talk" in many different settings, including Panorama competitions around the world, at restaurants and private events. Steel pans are a family of instruments, similar to that of string instruments (violin, cello, bass, etc.).  It is a huge part of the culture throughout the Caribbean islands, especially in Trinidad.

Structure of Classes

In the Steel Band classes, students will learn to play the steel drums! They will learn about the history and the culture of Trinidad and will learn to play different pieces of music across many different genres!
