Steel Band 1

Quick History of Pan

Steel pans (steel drums) were invented on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. They are widely used in afro-caribbean music, including calypso, soca and reggae. Today, you can hear "steel talk" in many different settings, including Panorama competitions around the world, at restaurants and private events. Steel pans are a family of instruments, similar to that of string instruments (violin, cello, bass, etc.).  It is a huge part of the culture throughout the Caribbean islands, especially in Trinidad.
